Welsh education minister Huw Lewis has congratulated the five Welsh winners of the Silver Pearson Teaching Award.
The awards, which were founded in 1999 by Lord Puttnam, are an annual celebration of exceptional teachers and teaching in schools and colleges in England, Wales and Ireland. They recognise the potentially life-changing impacts those in education jobs can have on youngsters.
Welsh winners of the awards will compete at the UK final of the Teaching Awards, to be held at London's Guildhall on October 26th. Ten silver award winners will receive a gold award in a ceremony to be broadcast on the BBC.
Huw Lewis said he was "delighted" to hear about the recognition Welsh teachers are receiving. "Our Silver Pearson Award winners are great ambassadors for their profession and for Wales and I wish them the very best of luck in the UK final," he added.
