Staffordshire teenagers have reportedly been learning how to be more responsible citizens in a week of special activities.

According to the Staffordshire Sentinel, pupils at Newcastle College have been getting involved with a range of community projects to mark Do Your Bit week.

Lynne Shearsmith, a tutor at the college, told the local newspaper the week was an ideal opportunity for students to learn they can participate in a variety of ways.

"Do Your Bit Week aims to encourage our students to become good citizens in lots of different ways, whether it's using their vote in a local election, volunteering their time to help others or supporting a charity," she explained.

The news source claims activities included a session with a local DJ, where the youngsters created a Christmas CD for local distribution.

Students also wrote to a conservation charity to pledge their support for its campaign to save rainforests
