Youth Worker

A secondary school located in the central Manchester area is looking to recruit a youth worker who can work with students who are finding secondary school more challenging than their peers. The successful youth worker should have prior experience of engaging with young people in small group settings as they will be working with those who are disengaged with school life. There will be elements of the role whereby you will have to manage challenging behaviour from students, following the school’s behaviour policy and working with the school’s leadership team to ensure the smooth running of the school day. Any experience in this area is highly desirable so please highlight this on your application.

As a youth worker, the successful individual should be able to work with students aged 11 – 16 from a variety of backgrounds with a range of ability levels, building relationships with students where required. As part of this role, you will support students in lessons and work with them in much smaller groups outside of the lesson ensuring they are engaged with at all times.

Highlights of this youth worker role:

• Full time youth worker required starting Monday 7^th September 2020
• Pay will be dependent upon experience but opportunity to earn up to GBP1350 per month
• Central Manchester based secondary school on the east of the city centre
• Work with a variety of students at this well known and reputable secondary school supporting the leadership team directly
• Work within a large support/pastoral team managed by the school SENCO and Assistant Head Teacher

This secondary school doesn’t have a particularly problem with challenging behaviour as they manage behaviour well with well implemented policies and procedures. The school has a number of mentors in place and are looking for a youth worker who can supplement these roles working together. There are elements of school life that present challenges for students and as a result this role has become available for a youth worker to support within the school and work with those students struggling to transition to the secondary school environment.

The school is situated in the central Manchester area close to Ardwick, Gorton, Longsight, Levenshulme and Droylsden. It is therefore commutable for those travelling from the city centre or areas nearby as outlined above. The school is on a major bus route as well as the local metrolink servicing the school well. For those who drive, the school has plenty of parking on site in the secure car park as well as being set in a pleasant, residential area.
