Year 5 Teaching Assistant

  • Full-time role within upper Key Stage 2 (9.00am – 3.15pm)
  • June 2021 start (Monday 7th), with a view to continue in September 2021

The Head Teacher of a primary school in Blackburn is seeking an enthusiastic KS2 teaching assistant to support the Year 5 class. This is a full-time role to begin from Monday 7th June 2021 until Friday 16th July 2021. The long-term plan for this role is for the position to continue in the next academic year, with the successful candidate moving up to Year 6 with the current Year 5 pupils. When starting in June, you will be working alongside an experience KS2 teacher and supporting a class of 30 children. Taking into consideration the school closures and the lost learning, the majority of the children are working towards age related expectation. The Head Teacher has stated they are looking for an individual dedicated to the progression of the pupils socially, emotionally and academically.

What will a working day look like?

Generally, your duties may include (but not be limited to):

  • Delivering tailored teaching activities to pupils on either a one-to-one basis or in small groups in Year 5.
  • Ensuring that the pupils you support are able to engage in learning and stay on task during the lesson or activity.
  • Supporting the social and emotional development of pupils, reporting any issues when required.
  • Supporting the teacher in managing challenging pupil behaviour and promoting positive behaviour.
  • Listening to pupils read and read to pupils on a small group or one-to-one basis.
  • Leading small group interventions with targeted children, focusing on Maths and English.
  • Carrying out administrative duties, such as preparing classroom resources.

The Head Teacher is hoping to shortlist and successfully appoint by Friday 21st May 2021, providing the successfully is available. The Head Teacher has said ideally they would come into school to meet the children and spend time with the class teacher before the May half-term.
