Year 5/6 Teacher

A school in North Leeds (LS17) are in need of a teacher for their mixed year group Year 5 and 6 class at least for the Autumn Term 2020. Their current class teacher is on maternity leave, and the teacher tasked with replacing them over this period is having to shield due to living with a vulnerable family member so is no longer able to cover for the school. For this reason, the school would like to get someone who has experience of teaching in upper KS2 rather than move the Year 3/4 teacher from their class. The role is until at least Christmas 2020, after which it is likely the role may be part-time until the February half-term as the original class teacher has a phased return to school. The school is a very pleasant primary school last graded as GOOD by Ofsted. The Headteacher has been at the school for over 6 years and in this time as kept a solid and happy staff, and achieved consistently good results.

The Head primarily wants someone who is trusted and reliable in upper KS2, with experience in preparation for Year 6 SATs and confident in controlling behaviour with children of this age. Therefore, experience of teaching in Year 6, or at least taking interventions/boosters for KS2 SATs, would be a massive reassurance for the school as this would assure them that the teacher in question is able to boost attainment, and prepare the children well for achieving good results in 2021. They also need a teacher who is used to dealing with children of this age, as whilst this isn’t an especially challenging class, having someone who can confidently maintain control and keep the children focussed is essential when preparing for SATs.

Also, any teacher with experience in mixed year group classes would reflect when applying for this role. This is because this level of differentiation could present a challenge to even experience teachers, so anyone who has done this before, with good knowledge of the KS2 curriculum, is in the best position to do this job to a high level.
