Year 5/6 Teacher
Job description
This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...
A school in HG1 have contacted Teaching Personnel as they require a Year 5/6 teacher to take their class until the end of the academic year. If you satisfy the following requirements then get in touch as this could be a perfect role for you!
The requirements
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
- Experience teaching across KS2
- Knowledge of KS2 SATs (interventions, boosters etc.)
- Available 3 days a week from February half-term onwards
The current teacher of the class goes on maternity leave at February half-term and the school have decided to replace them with a job share between the Assistant Head and a new recruit. The Assistant Head is currently planning on teaching the class on Mondays and Tuesdays, meaning that the candidate will be taking the class on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. However, for the right candidate, the school are willing to be flexible on the days that need to be worked. The Assistant Head formerly taught this joint year 5 and 6 class for 5 years, so will be extremely useful in providing help and assistance for anyone who is new to the school. The school is very small, with only 4 classes all of which are combined year-groups (except the Early Years class). Therefore the staff are very tightly-knit and have worked at the school for a number of years.
The school is rated as OUTSTANDING by Ofsted, and therefore maintain very high standards in terms of both quality of teaching and behaviour of the students. For this reason, the school ae eager to recruit someone who has experience in Good/Outstanding schools and have a track record of achieving good exam results to raise the teaching standard. Behaviour across the school is exemplary, so the Head is more focussed on recruiting someone based on their teaching style and ability. This position is therefore an exciting chance to join the staff of an excellent school, and help continue their academic success.
The role
The priority for the SLT is to recruit someone familiar with teaching the KS2 curriculum, as this is essential when handling a joint class of Year 5 and 6 students. KS2 SATs experience would of course be extremely valuable to the school, but the school do not consider this a necessity as they believe that sufficient support will be provided by the Assistant Head who has vast experience in this regard. The school would prefer an experienced teacher who has taught across multiple KS2 year-groups, and would be very receptive to a candidate with experience of teaching combined year-groups in the past, as this can present unique challenges to teachers who have not before done it. The school are also very encouraging in terms of extra-curricular activities within school, and so would be very receptive to anyone with a background in sports, music or modern foreign languages. The role is initially until the end of the academic year, but if the school were happy with performance it is highly likely that this would result in a permanent position at the school.
To apply
If you think this role could be for you, then we ask that you apply by submitting an up-to-date CV that details your previous roles and the responsibilities that came with it. Should we and the school consider you suitable for the role, then you will be asked into the school for an interview and trial morning/afternoon in the next fortnight.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later
