Job description

Teaching Personnel are looking for tutors to work in the Burton and Swadlincote areas of Derbyshire, on a 1:1 basis with Looked After Pupils or pupils at risk of exclusion. Many of these pupils do not have a school place currently so they require interim tuition while a school place is sought.

We are seeking dedicated part-time Tutors to provide one-to-one home tuition in English, Maths, Science for primary school students and all subjects within KS3 and KS4. We sometimes also require tutors to work with Primary aged pupils but the majority of referrals are within the secondary age range.

Our tutors benefit from:

  • Excellent rates of pay (between £15 - £25 per hour, depending on qualifications)
  • Support from Teaching Personnel and Virtual School staff
  • Rewarding work where you can make a differene to some of the most vulnerable pupils in the region
  • Flexible hours: usually within the school day and flexible to work around

Applicants should have a strong academic background, as well as some teaching or tutoring experience. Ideally our candidates will also have experience working with pupils who may be extremely disengaged and may have been out of education for extensive periods of time. Your role will be to assess the students' levels and to try and re-engage them using a pastoral, nurturing approach at all times.

For more information please contact Emma Gale as soon as possible.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
