Job description

A Secondary SEN School in Wigan are seeking a Teaching Assitant on a long term basis. The provision is for pupils aged 11-19 years with severe and profound learning difficulties. The school caters for a range of pupils including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC).

The school is purpose built and is co-located with a mainstream school. This allows pupils to access inclusion opportunities, where appropriate, and also mix with their mainstream peers during breaks and lunches.

During the year the school give opportunities for parents to come into the school to discuss their child's progress. The school also operates a home/school diary system in school and use this very effectively to communicate with parents.

As a Teaching Assistant in the school you would be expected to support each individual and provide them with duty of care. The successful Teaching Assistant will be working across a number of classes. These classes have pupils with SLD and ASC. You will be working along side the class Teacher and Teaching Assistants. The role will be you keeping all pupils fully engaged on the class work and to keep noise to a minimum.

The role requires:

  • Previous experience of supporting young people with SLD and ASC
  • Willing to undertake personal care
  • to be flexible
  • DBS on update service

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
