Teaching Assistant - Walthamstow

Job description

A special needs school in Walthamstow are seeking a teaching assistant to begin on a full time basis from January. The school cater to students all of which have a statement of special educational needs between the ages of 2-19. Being part of an academy the school aim to appoint a teaching assistant who is willing to maintain their level of high standards, these include: care and support for students , maintaining high levels of understanding and interaction, high expectations of students and presentation

Special needs the school support with :

  • Autism
  • Profound multiple learning difficulties (PMLD)
  • Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) - Behavioural needs
  • Complex needs (physical disabilities, wheelchair bound)

Teaching assistant role:

  • Supporting Autistic students in secondary KS3 groups with challenging behavioural needs
  • Providing additional 1:1 support when needed and providing group support
  • Interact with students and encourage pupils with autism to take part in classroom activities

Desired traits:

  • Previous experience supporting secondary pupils with autism on a 1:1 basis
  • Experience of supporting in either KS3 or KS4
  • Understanding of safeguarding and special educational needs
  • Relevant training - Moving and Handling, Team Teach, PECS and Makaton

As a teaching assistant supporting students with special educational needs you will be provided with opportunities to succeed with a range of training to further develop your career; you will be supported by an amazing senior leadership team and provided with a positive framework for succeeding with the school.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
