Behaviour Teaching Assistant - 1:1 Support - Lewisham

Immediate start

£70-£85 Daily rate - PAYE - No hidden fees

We are currently looking to recruit a competent 1:1 behaviour support teaching assistant to work across KS3-KS4 to support the education of 2 pupils who have social, emotional or behavioural needs in an alternative provision based in Lewisham. For this role you will be working with complex behavioural needs so previous experience or understanding working with behavioural needs will be of an advantage , some pupils have social and communication difficulties so you will need to be creative, interactive and be able to take a tailored approach to work with student with complex behaviour needs. The sessions can take place in one of the Lewisham 1:1 centres, in quite public place or in the home!

They are looking for at least 2 of the following qualities:

  • Previous experience working in a pupil referral unit , alternative provision or experience working with challenging behavioural needs , minimum of 6 months
  • Experienced youth or community support workers
  • Support workers from mental health facilities or high risk secure units that have transferable skills working with behaviour needs with adults or children
  • Sports coaches looking to transfer skills in supporting vulnerable young pupils' education
  • Wiling to learn and bring new ideas to engage pupils in their education
  • Psychology or criminology graduates who are confident to work with behaviour needs or willing to learn
  • Confident , creative, interactive personality
  • Sound knowledge of up to date Safeguarding policies

For the interview you will be required to plan a session for a student with behavioural needs, make it engaging, interactive and deliver this as a presentation to a panel of interviewers that work with the alternative provision!

The post is to start immediately and you will be required to undergo an induction and training programme, there will be the possibility of securing a permanent contract after 17 term time weeks. The alternative provision caters for pupils that have a statement of special educational needs and are of challenging nature so you will need to have a good understanding to work with students that have emotional, behavioural needs and be able to tailor session plans suited to learners needs.
