Teaching Personnel are working closely with a special educational needs (SEN) school in Twickenham for children with SLCN, social communication needs and/or Autism. The school is part of a group of SEN schools in Richmond which aims to provide outstanding special needs provision for the local community.

The school are looking for an enthusiastic, engaging and encouraging teaching assistant. The role will support children in class and throughout the school day with personalised SEN provision. A successful teaching assistant will be self-efficient, patient, observant with a passion to work with special needs children.  

The School:

The school is a new-build and fully facilitated for children with speech language communication needs and autism. This includes on-site therapy rooms, soft play areas, cooking rooms, sports facilities, in-house therapy teams and state-of-the art specialised technology.

The school are due to open their primary department from September 2021 and would be keen on applicants with both primary and secondary autism support experience.

The school additionally provide CPD training for all staff on-site weekly in Makaton, PECS TEACCH, behaviour management and special needs resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Safeguarding children in care and providing a safe environment for SEN children to thrive
  • Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups during learning activities and within the school
  • Greeting pupils on arrival and accompanying to parents at end of school day
  • Creating resources (PECS, TEACCH) and working collaboratively with class teacher and/or therapists
  • Adapting development plans, observing and recording pupil progress
  • Assisting staff with personal care (hygiene) support for pupils when required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1:1 experience in supporting special needs (Autism or communication needs)
  • Experience and/or confidence supporting children in academic learning
  • Safeguarding qualification or ability to complete our FREE course prior to working with children
  • Valid child DBS with online update service registration
  • Availability either full-time Monday to Fridays or a minimum of 3 days Monday to Friday 8:30-4:00pm on request (ad-hoc requirements)

 

Pay: GBP66.80 – 75 per day (negotiable dependant on SEN experience)

Location: Twickenham, Richmond upon Thames – easily accessible from Isleworth, Brentford, Hounslow and Chiswick

Duration:  September 2021 to April 2022 dependant on positive feedback with permanent contract opportunities

Pupil Needs: Speech and Language Communication Needs (SLCN), Autism and social communication needs.

Pupil Ages: 5-16 years old

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
