Teaching Personnel are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant to provide targeted support for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a specialist school.

Our client is a special school located in Bradford, catering for pupils aged 5-13 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMH). Pupils range from. The successful applicant will work with KS2 and KS3 pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties.

Traditionally focusing on behaviour management, the school has moved away from this and now focuses on attachment friendly practice which enables pupils to become intrinsically motivated to want to learn and do well.

You will work with colleagues to deliver a creative curriculum based meeting holistic needs of individuals. You will support pupils to access lessons in all subject areas, as well as supporting the delivery of practical activities which include cooking, animal care, and construction - linking to ASDAN qualifications for students in KS3.

Applicants must posses a genuine enthusiasm for working with pupils who display challenging behaviour. Experience of working with SEN pupils is desirable. Applicants must be prepared to undergo appropriate training, including training in physical restraint techniques (Team Teach).

  • Are well motivated, enthusiastic and flexible
  • Hold high expectations both personally and for young people
  • Possess excellent organisational skills
  • Have good interpersonal skills with an ability to liaise with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Are able to act with sensitivity and patience
