An outstanding behavioural school are looking to appoint a behaviour support assistant to start from January 2018. Initially, the position will be temporary for January- Easter but there is an opportunity for a permanent contract. The school caters for individuals between 11-16 with a Statement of SEN or an EHCP, on the autistic spectrum and/or have significant communication and interaction difficulties and social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH).

The role will involve planning and implementing outreach activities that are designed to encourage the development of pupil's life skills and enhance their employability. Due to the specific needs of the pupils we would be interested in applicants with experience of supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour. The ideal behaviour support assistant will have experience working with pupils with challenging behaviour and understand how to de-escalate situations.

The ideal behaviour support assistant will have:

  • Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (ideally level 3)
  • Preferably Team-Teach trained (can be provided)
  • A considerable amount of experience working with pupils with challenging behaviour
  • Experience working within a special needs setting
  • An understanding of the de-escalation tactics and crisis prevention
