Teaching Personnel is the UK’s leading education recruitment agency. We are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant to workat one of our Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools in the Sherbourne area. The school works with young people between the ages of 11 and 16 from North Dorset who are unable to attend mainstream school full-time. Students are referred for a number of reasons via a number of professionals including the Dorset Exclusions Officer, Health Professionals & CAMHS, Dorset LAC Team and Dorset SEN Team.
What the role of a classroom assistant involves:
- working within the class to support the class teacher with their lessons
- working alongside a team of support staff in class
- working on a 1:1 basis with students
This is a temporary position but there is the opportunity to go permanent for the right candidate.
The successful candidate must:
- have experience working in a school and/or with challenging behaviour
- be resilient
- have a good understanding of Special Educational Needs, or a willingness to learn
To be successful in this role it is desirable if you:
- have experience working within a school setting
- have experience working with children and/or adults with learning difficulties
- be resilient and confident working with challenging behaviour
- Be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the role of a Teaching Assistant in a special needs school
- Have the ability to engage pupils in their learning and support them in their social, emotional and personal wellbeing
- be nurturing and enthusiastic
- have experience in delivering outdoor education/experience within the sports industry
This position is ideal for qualified teachers, NQT’s or someone looking to gain experience working in a school with Special Educational Needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
