Job Description: Teaching Assistant

This Teaching Assistant role is to support a set of twin pupils in a year 1 who have speech and language difficulties. You must support the twins in their day to day activities within the school and when needed use intervention methods to improve their speech and language. Due to the twin’s speech and language difficulties they sometimes struggle in social situations due to a breakdown in communication, you must aid either twin communicate with other pupils when needed to improve their social interaction and make play as inclusive as possible. On the rare occasion you will be expected to provide personal care for either twin as they sometimes have the tendency to have accidents. Although this has proven to be easily avoidable with prompting from an adult to use the toilet when needed.

This school based in the heart of Monmouth has a motto of ‘Every Child Matters, Every Moment Counts’ and the school try their very best to develop the ethos of a caring community in which all individuals are equally valued and celebrated. There are 346 pupils on roll aged from 3-11 years old with 14 classes and a special needs resource base for pupils with statements of special educational needs. In the school’s latest inspection ESTYN commented most pupils enjoy school and have positive attitudes to learning. Throughout the school, members of staff know individual pupils well and they respond effectively to pupils personal, social and emotional needs in order to ensure their happiness and wellbeing.

• Demonstrate good patience and a nursing personality
• Show strong levels of compassion and empathy
• Can support pupils in their academic work
• Be able to support children with speech and language difficulties
• Personal care experience desirable but not essential
