A Secondary school in Bolton is looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant on a temporary basis for students with complex needs and learning disability.
The School
This amazing school is adjoined with a mainstream high school to provide an inclusive environment and excellent range of facilities for students aged 11 right up to 19 years old.
The curriculum has been specially adapted to incorporate developmental opportunities for students with speech and language barriers, physical disabilities and sensory deprivation. Students are encouraged to actively participate in a range of sensory and holistic activities designed to support their social, emotional and educational progression.
Teaching Assistants provide support in all areas of school life; in class, in therapy and in leisure time.
The Role
As Teaching Assistant you have the opportunity to make a profound difference to a students day to day school life by providing 1:1 care. Your responsibilities will include;
- Classroom support - activities, organisation, engagement, behaviour, emotional support
- Attending therapy sessions to support therapists and nurses where necessary
- Moving and Handling, fine motor skills support
- Personal Care and toileting
- Assistance at break and lunch - preparing snack, supervision to break room, collecting meal, support with feeding and personal hygiene
To be considered for the role of Teaching Assistant you need;
- Experience in Support Work or Care (profound, multiple, complex learning disability, physical disability, medical needs)
- Understanding/ experience of non verbal communication (BSL, Makaton, PECS)
- Moving and Handling trained and physically able
- Comfortable with personal care
- Patient, positive and pragmatic
- Experience as Teaching Assistant (preferable but not essential)
- Experience with children (preferable but not essential)
- Experience in education/ school environment (preferable but not essential)
Please be aware that all applicants will be subject to background checks and will need a current DBS certificate (update service registered).
Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8.30am-3.30pm approximately, but you may be offered additional duties and responsibilities outside of these hours.
The school require on and off support throughout the year depending on student intake and staffing needs, so there is always opportunity for contract extension and permanent roles for staff who are a great asset to the school.
