Job description

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to develop your career as an SEN teaching assistant?

  • Work in the primary department of an outstanding SEN school in South Croydon
  • £55-£65 per day, dependent on experience

This role will suit someone available for full time work, who can start as soon as possible. You will provide 1:1 support for a key stage 1 class, comprised of 6 students who have mixed, complex needs. You must have experience of working with special needs, particularly those who have physical disabilities and require toileting and hoisting assistance.

You will work with children who have severe learning difficulties including autism, following direction from the class teacher and working collaboratively with 3 other teaching assistants. You will be a crucial component in the children's sensory, social, speech, language and communication development. It would be beneficial if you have prior experience of using PECs or Makaton as this will be something you use every day.

The ideal candidate:

  • Will be able to provide personal care throughout the day, including toileting and changing students
  • Will be able to use hoisting equipment for children in wheelchairs (moving and handling training is desirable)
  • Will be able to commit to working at this school full time, long term and potentially become a permanent member of staff in the future
  • Will be committed to their own professional development, and will take every opportunity to attend training courses either at the school or through Teaching Personnel
  • Will already be able to use PECs or Makaton, or will be willing to learn

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
