SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant – Make a Real Difference in Wareham!
Location: Wareham
Salary: £13.75 per hour
Start Date: Immediate / January

An Alternative Education Provision School in Wareham that is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to support students aged 8–18 years old with a range of Special Educational Needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Work closely with teachers to create a positive and inclusive learning environment
- Support students with Complex SEMH needs and SEND, including Autism Spectrum Condition, speech and language difficulties, anxiety, and other mental health challenges
- Help pupils who may have experienced trauma, self-harm, or are awaiting CAMHS assessment
- Use positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations calmly and safely
What We’re Looking For
- Experience working with SEN or SEMH (in education or other settings)
- A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
- Ability to thrive in a PRU / Alternative Provision environment
- Strong teamwork skills and willingness to collaborate with teachers and support staff
- Understanding of behaviour management and safeguarding practices

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
