SEN Teaching Assistant – Opportunities via Teaching Personnel

If you answered yes, then this job opportunity for an SEN Teaching Assistant may be for you! A SEN/PRU Secondary School in Sherbourne is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team.
The Role:
You will be responsible for supporting classroom teachers in providing the best support possible to students ranging in the ages 11-16 years old, with various SEN, SEMH and behavioural difficulties.
This school is a short stay alternative provision for:
- Students who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education
- Students who may be at risk of permanent exclusion
- Students who have specific medical needs
- Students who need SEND assessments
It is a “trauma informed school” and they approach all students with these practices. Students are supported with their emotional literacy, mentoring opportunities, sports coaching, anger management, emotion coaching, mental health first aid, sensory opportunities and family workshops.
Who We Are Looking For:
- Applicant must be comfortable working in a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit)
- A patient, resilient, innovative and caring individual with a compassionate approach to supporting children
- SEMH and SEND experience
- Able to collaborate with teachers and other support staff
- Understanding of positive behaviour support strategies
- Able to de-escalate challenging situations calmly and safely
