Teaching Assistant (Global Delay) in Cardiff (CF14)
Job description
This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...
Teaching Personnel are currently looking to recruit an outgoing, confident and bubbly Teaching Assistant who has previously worked with Children with Special Educational Needs, such as Autism (High and Low Functioning), ADHD, Social and Emotional Mental Health, Global Delay and/or Behavioural difficulties.
The position available is in a Primary school in Roath who are looking to appoint an additional support staff member to work one-to-one with a child in Year 1 with Global Delay and help him out on a daily basis with his school work and social integration. Though the school is ideally looking for a candidate with good knowledge of the education system and of SENs, they have confirmed that they may also consider applications from Graduates who are looking to start their career in education, depending on their background and personality.
The role :
You will be supporting the child on a curricular basis with English, Maths and Science (potentially also with languages, art and music if your background enables you to do so) and help him integrate with the other children in the school. The pupil has a very caring nature but is very shy and lacks confidence, meaning he is behind the national average in terms of attainment. It is vital for you to be patient, caring and have a nurturing personality to make the child feel confident and trusting. Candidates with tutoring backgrounds will be considered and a knowledge of the British curriculum would be beneficial.
Teaching Personnel are currently looking for a friendly, compassionate and eager Learning Support Assistant for a very promising opportunity within one of Partner Primary school in Barry.
The ideal candidate must relate to children on an individual level as well as creating a fun, stimulating and safe environment (in association with the school's visions and ethos), whilst maintaining high standards of education.
The role :
You will be looking after a Year 5 student on the Autism Spectrum (low functioning) and with Social and Emotional Mental Health on a one-to-one basis. The child works well with the Year 3 curriculum therefore the academic support would be fairly minimal, however a very nurturing and patient profile is required from the right candidate. You must be compassionate and eager to learn about Special Educational Needs, work well alongside the ALNCo, and provide continuous support to the child in order to prepare him to fit in busier environments after Primary school.
This is a long-term position, Monday to Friday (8:30am to 4pm) starting in September. The ideal candidate will have previous school based and/or SEN related experience (inc. work experience). Any certificates, diplomas or other qualifications related to a Education and/or Special Educational Needs are desirable (but not compulsory).
The school :
Located just on the outskirts of Barry, the school has developed a great relationship with the local residents in their area including the pupils' families, leading to a calm and stable environment, and therefore a great educational record with constant progress on an academic and attainment level. The school prides itself in believing that every pupil is entitled to an excellent education, regardless of ability, and thriving each day thanks to their committed and passionate staff.
Applicants must :
- Have the legal right to work in the UK
- Hold a Child Workforce Only DBS registered on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one - full assistance provided)
- Be registered with the Education Workforce Council (compulsory requirement in Wales) - please note that if you are living in England, you can still register with the EWC which will give you the opportunity to work on both sides of the border
- Provide two professional or character references
- Be available to interview and/or trial asap
- Be available to start on short notice
- Be living in Cardiff and/or have plans to move to Cardiff in the near future and/or be willing to travel to Cardiff
If you would like to apply for this position, please send your up-to-date CV along with a short cover statement.
Please note - if the above role isn't quite right for you BUT you would still like to engage in a position within the education sector, please be advised that we are currently recruiting for several roles to start ASAP, throughout South East and South West Wales, within all year groups from Nursery to Year 6. You can forward you CV or contact us via telephone for further information.
