An 'Outstanding' special needs school in Chigwell are currently seeking a teaching assistant to support in a specialist autism unit that caters to students with autism and complex emotional , behavioural needs. The new unit will support those students who have difficulty in managing their behaviour and are at the high end of the autistic spectrum. The unit is an expansion of the school and they are looking to offer a support to primary students who require additional assistance with managing their special educational needs through using a therapeutic approach. Students are rewarded using a token system that are awarded for behaviour and positive choices; students are motivated to obtain as many tokens as they can during the course of the week.

As a teaching assistant your role will be to support the pupils within the unit and encourage them to take part in classroom activities and be flexible to provide 1:1 support when required . Some students required additional support and therefore may require communication support with PECS and Makaton so if you have knowledge or training , we want to hear from you . The school are seeking a teaching assistant who has previous experience supporting with special needs and meets their high expectations . They are looking for an individual who is passionate about supporting students with special educational needs and wants to continue a career in special needs.
