Full Time teaching assistant needed for a Cardiff Secondary School's specialist additional learning needs unit.

Position: Long Term/Full time

Pay Rates: £54 - £60 per day dependant on experience

*No Direct SEN experience is required, however to be considered for this role you must possess key characteristics that the school will be looking for such as : a proactive approach to learning, professionalism, adaptability, use of own initiative in a variety of situations, caring and supportive nature*

The school has specialist attached units where pupils with additional learning needs will be supported within one of their alternative education provisions. You will be responsible for supporting and delivering education to either 1 individual pupil where you will work on a 1 to one bases or you will work with a small group of pupils that find it difficult to integrate within the mainstream classes due to them having additional learning needs or social and emotional support requirements.

As well as supporting through the school curriculum's lessons you may be required to support with additional programmes such as anger management, mindfulness & well being & mental health awareness. You will be working with individuals that may have various types of special education needs such as Autism, ADHD, EBD & SEMH these needs will all need varying levels of support so the successful candidate needs to be adaptable and show a proactive attitude in varying situations.

  • Role starting Full time ASAP
  • The possibility of a school contract being offered at the end of the year
  • Special education needs department working with pupils that have various Special
  • Special education needs teaching assistant working with up to 30% of the schools population including group and 1:1 support
  • School works with children from 11-19 years of age
  • Large school with approximately 800 pupils

The successful special education needs teaching assistant and the role:

  • Educated to Degree level is preferred but not essential
  • Use of your own Car is desirable/ Confident using public transport
  • Previous experience working with Secondary age pupils is required
  • Be confident and have the ability to build report with pupils and act as a support function
  • Work closely with Additional needs coordinator and SEN team
  • Show a passion for education and the capabilities to work in challenging situations
