Behaviour Buddy 1:1

Here at Teaching Personnel we are currently working alongside one of our partner Secondary Schools that are looking to recruit 3 Behaviour Buddy/Mentors for 1:1 roles in Cardiff starting in September on a full time basis. As a 1:1 Behaviour Buddy, you will have the ability to build strong, trusting and stable relationships with young people, and be consistent in your approach to behaviour management. Although this role will mainly be on a 1:1 basis you will often be asked to support with small group interventions within the behaviour provision.

Pupils that struggle in mainstream lessons may need extra encouragement and support to ensure they stay on track with the goals that they have individually been set. Often pupils will have individual development plans which you will be required to monitor and feedback to the appropriate members of staff. You will be able to provide support both on an academic and pastoral basis; providing emotional support where appropriate. This role would involve you working in the schools specialist behaviour provision where specialised support is given to pupils that are at risk of exclusion. The school have specified that the right candidate but be very resilient and not easily offended as the pupils you will be buddied up with often have complex emotional needs which will need to be supported throughout the year.

**If you have a background in Counselling, Youth Work or Psychology, or have previous experience providing Behaviour Support for young people in an education, health or care setting then we would be very interested in speaking to you.**

The perfect candidate will have:

  • The ability to de-escalate challenging behaviour and support pupils that are in risk of reaching crisis point (Team Teach training can be provided by Teaching Personnel)
  • Previous experience of meeting young people's Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs would be desirable however this role often relies on having a great attitude towards supporting individual and varying needs
  • A resilience approach to pupils with challenging behaviour and at risk of exclusion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A passion to make a positive difference in a young person's life
  • Access to a vehicle is desirable
  • Patience and reliability to provide consistency for a pupil with complex needs
  • Sensitivity to the challenges relating to young people in care
