Job description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Support Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, and a commitment to helping them achieve their full potential. As a SEND Support Worker, you will work closely with students, teachers, and other professionals to provide tailored support and assistance both inside and outside the classroom.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to students with special educational needs and disabilities, both in the classroom and during extracurricular activities.
  • Assist students with academic tasks, including reading, writing, and completing assignments, as needed.
  • Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior support plans (BSPs) under the guidance of the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and respected.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to develop and implement strategies to support students’ learning and development.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on students’ progress and discuss any concerns or issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of support provided and student progress, in line with school policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools or equivalent are preferred but not essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the school environment.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
