Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for an English Graduate to join one of our client schools in Tameside as a Teaching Assistant. This position will be full-time, starting in September at the beginning of the new academic year.

The salary for this position will be between £385 and £450 per week dependent on experience and requirements from the school.

The school is located near to Ashton-Under-Lyne and is easy to commute to from the surrounding areas of Oldham, Hyde, and Gorton by public transport or by driving. It is a large, mixed secondary school, providing an education to pupils between the ages of 11 and 16. This school currently has an Ofsted rating of 3, meaning that it is requiring improvement. Currently, 29% of their pupils leaving year 11 have achieved a grade 5 or higher in both English and Maths. The national average for this is 50%. The school is in a highly disadvantaged area. 44.33% of their pupils are eligible for free school meals, whereas the national average for this is 26.92%.

The key responsibilities for this position are:

  • Working with smaller groups of children or on a 1:1 basis to target the learning needs of those pupils who are struggling academically more than their peers.
  • Assisting the teacher in the planning and delivery of lessons, ensuring that they are in line with the English curriculum.
  • You should monitor the progression of the pupils, being able to give feedback to the teaching staff.
  • The school is quickly working to make improvements, you should be working to contribute to the learning development of pupils.
  • Assisting the teacher in the management of behaviour, ensuring that the classroom is a safe and productive learning environment.
  • You should be aware of all safeguarding procedures and ensure that they are being followed correctly.

For this position, it is essential that you are willing to apply for a fully enhanced DBS check. You must also be able to provide at least two employment-based references. You should also be aware of safeguarding procedures; training will be provided throughout the application process.
