Are you a recent Sports Graduate looking to start your career in Education?
Or, are you an experienced Teaching Assistant with PE as your specialist subject?
If you are looking for a Full Time position and want a new challenge, Teaching Personnel have the ideal role for you!

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a Partnership alternative provision just south of York. The provision caters for students with a range of Behavioural Difficulties and moderate Special Educational Needs. The school are looking to appoint a Sports Teaching Assistant on a Full Time basis, commencing Monday 3rd of September 2018. This would initially be for 1 Term, however there is a very strong possibility of this continuing until July 2019 with the potential of a permanent contract. The ideal candidate should come from a Sporting background and be able to act as a Role Model for Key Stage 3 and 4 students, many with a difficult home-life.

About the Role:

  • To work within Key Stage 3 and GCSE classes, offering additional support to students who are unable to attend a mainstream School
  • You will be responsible for supporting and possibly leading practical PE lessons to small groups of around 12 students and have plenty of opportunity to work 1:1 and 1:2 with students
  • Work alongside other staff members and liaise with senior leadership team members, to identify learner's barriers to learning
  • Maintain up to date and accurate records, preparing evaluations for school/parents evenings and meetings
  • Be able to offer unbiased emotional support to disadvantaged students

About the School:

  • The School formed in April 2010 with their mission to provide children and young people who live in the City of York with high quality education even when they have struggled to succeed in a mainstream school. The provision serves vulnerable young people who may be in crisis or in need of specialist teaching, to help them achieve. The school is for 5-16 year olds who are struggling to learn because of social, emotional or behavioural difficulties
  • The School is diverse in comparison to a mainstream provision, in that staff roles and the curriculum are adapted where possible to cater for the needs of the young people in their care; therefore, it is crucial that core expectations are met to maintain a quality structure
  • In 2016/2017 the School was allocated £115,000 in Pupil Premium Funding. This was used to fill gaps in literacy and numeracy due to breakdown in attendance and engagement in mainstream school, offer family support networks for those often struggling to encourage good attendance and engagement and may not have had a good experience of education themselves
  • The School's most recent OFSTED inspection was conducted in February 2017, where they were graded as 'Good' and had comments such as 'the leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection. You have continued to develop the complex provision, supported by your effective leadership team. This is leading to increasingly better outcomes for vulnerable young people

About You as the Ideal Candidate:

  • Should hold either a Level 2 Teaching Assistant Qualification, with at least 1 year's experience supporting in a similar provision, OR hold a Degree; ideally in Sports Coaching or Sports Sciences
  • Be available to start the role on Monday 3rd of September 2018 on a Full Time basis
  • Provide a detailed 6 year career history, with relevant reference details accessible
  • Hold GCSE certificates, with Maths and English grades being at least a Grade C
  • Hold a child only DBS that is Update Service registered, or be willing to apply for a new one through Teaching Personnel
