Speech and Language Support.

Location: Nelson (BB9)

Start date: 1st December 2023 

Contract type: Temporary to Permanent 

Working hours: Part-time, flexible working. 

Pay rate: £11.85-£12.50 p/h.

As a Speech and Language Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing general and 1-1 support to pupils with SLCN, tailoring their curriculum and daily structure to ensure they have a smooth and successful school experience. You will facilitate the child’s participation in classroom activities, providing specific support for their speech and language through alterative communication strategies and methods such as Makaton. You will liaise with both the classroom teachers and parents to ensure you are collectively maximising pupil’s progress and altering their lessons plans accordingly.

Role requirements:

  • Confident/experience using PECs/Makaton or open to accessing relevant training.
  • Relevant experience supporting children with additional needs.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques.
  • Empathy, patience and a genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
