SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS TEACHING ASSISTANT - CARDIFF

2 x SEN Teaching assistants needed for a Cardiff Secondary School

Position: Long Term/Full time

Pay Rates: Up to £60 per day dependant on experience

*No Direct Experience with SEN is necessary, however The school have requested someone with a positive attitude, the ability to use their own initiative and also the successful Teaching Assistant must be able to work with pupils that can find social situations daunting & challenging*

Due to an ever-growing and expanding special education needs department there is a great opportunity to join this proud and passionate team. The SEN team is fully dedicated to enhancing the learning needs of pupils with extra academic and social support. The SENCO in the school has specified the need for someone who can adapt to multiple situations and especially feel confident dealing with challenging situations. You will be working with individuals that may have various types of needs such as Autism, ADHD, EBD & SEMH these needs will all need varying levels of support so the successful candidate needs to be adaptable and show a proactive attitude in varying situations.

The School and Position:

  • Role starting Full time in September 2018 with the school looking at starting on a part time basis before the end of this academic year
  • The possibility of a school contract being offered at the end of the calendar year
  • Special education needs department working with pupils that have various Special Educational Needs such as Autism, Asperger's, ADHD as well as additional Learning Needs
  • Special education needs teaching assistant working with up to 30% of the schools population including group and 1:1 support
  • School works with children from 11-19 years of age
  • Large school with approximately 1200 pupils

The successful special education needs teaching assistant and the role:

  • Educated to Degree level is preferred but not essential
  • Use of your own Car is desirable/ Confident using public transport
  • Previous experience working with Secondary age pupils is required
  • Be confident and have the ability to build report with pupils and act as a support function
  • Work closely with Additional needs coordinator and SEN team
  • Show a passion for education and the capabilities to work in challenging situations

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
