SEN Support Assistant
A school in Darwen seek to appoint a Specialist Support Assistant to work in their KS2 department from September 2020 (depending on the nationwide school closures). The school in question are currently graded GOOD by Ofsted and will be looking to appoint a new SSA for the new academic year. The Head teacher is expecting applications to be made during this difficult time and interviews will take place temporarily through video conference calling. Please make sure you apply as the school WILL need to appoint ready for the children returning in September.
The Role
The role is to support a number of children with special educational needs across KS2. You will be allocated a child with special educational needs and you will be expected to support them in their social and academic development. You will work with the class teacher to differentiate the learning outcomes and ensure the child is able to progress in line with the national expectation. The Head teacher will be keen to support you with a BUDDY in school, usually a senior leader or SENCo who ensures you are working at your capacity and adding value, as well as receiving feedback and observations.
The School
The school is graded GOOD by Ofsted and will continue to offer all the children the best platform to succeed. The dedicated SENCo in school ensures all the children are giving the appropriate support in and out of the classroom and you are able to support accordingly. The school generally has good behaviour and the children arrive from supportive backgrounds. There is a ‘no shouting’ policy across school which you will be required to adhere to; the school use a range of strategies to manage behaviour including positive reinforcement techniques as well as positive praise. The school receives a large proportion of funding for children with special educational needs and Pupil Premium. This means the school are able to allocate funding to support specific children and with this they are expected to evidence good progress
The Head teacher
The Head Teacher has a very positive reputation in the local area and has been in post for over five years. During this time she has moved her school from a Requires Improvement grading and subsequently held a Good Ofsted grading for the last two inspections. The children are positive about school life and this is a direct result of the leadership engrained throughout school from EYFS to Year 6. You will receive access to support from your line manager as well as a range of professional development opportunities. The school are always keen to upskill their staff and ensure they are up to date with new changes in the curriculum and behaviour management.
The Vetting Process
Due to recent changes in Government guidelines, Teaching Personnel are now working remotely and can register and interview candidates through telephone and conference call facilities. This is extremely useful and efficient and allows us to register candidate as normal. As per our usual guidelines, you will be expected to evidence your past six years in education and employment and provide referee details where necessary.
