Teaching Personnel are seeking an experienced Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join an expanding team in a special school in Bradford this September.
Situated in Heaton, the school has easy access by both car and public transport from local areas including Leeds, Shipley and Huddersfield. The school has 130 pupils currently on roll, aged between 3 and 19. All pupils have Special Educational Needs including Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH).
All staff are committed to meeting the needs of pupils, with a particular focus on activities which promote positive social development.
The successful applicant will join a large, multi-disciplinary team which includes specialist teachers, behaviour support workers, an on-site medical team and Speech and Language Therapist and a holistic therapist.
You must have experience of supporting pupils with additional learning needs and be confident in assisting with personal care for individual pupils. Additional training in Team Teach, Autism Awareness or Intensive Interaction is also desirable.
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will work with colleagues to provide holistic support to pupils to ensure both academic and personal achievement goals are met. You will possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise with parents/carers. Knowledge and understanding of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) is essential, as you will be required to update individual plans on a regular basis.
Previous experience within a school and direct experience working with children is desired but not essential as we also look for in background knowledge in areas such as:
- Health and Social Care
- Youth Work
- Play Therapy
- Psychology
- Counselling
- Social Work
