Special Needs Assistant - Wakefield

Job description

A Special Needs School in Wakefield are seeking a passionate individual to join their existing team as a Teaching Assistant as soon as possible. This is a part time role, on a temporary basis, however this role could become permanent for the successful candidate.

The school is situated in the Ackworth area of Wakefield and is easily accessible by car from Leeds, Wakefield and the surrounding areas. A generic special school with 250 pupils aged 2-19; the school are committed to meeting the needs of all learners, with an emphasis on positive personal and social development. The school benefits from an on-site Medical Team, in house Speech and Language Therapists and a team of physiotherapists that assist with hydrotherapy sessions.

You must have experience of supporting pupils with additional learning needs (Autism, PMLD, and SEMH) and be confident in supporting individual pupils with their personal care needs. You may also have additional training in Team Teach, Moving and Handling, PECs, Intensive Interaction and/or Autism Awareness, or be committed to completing the training as part of your role.

You will be dedicated to providing holistic support to pupils to ensure both academic and personal achievement goals are met. You will possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise with a multi-disciplinary team and with parents/carers. Knowledge and understanding of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) is essential.

An experience within a school and direct experience working with children is desired but not essential as we also look for in background knowledge in areas such as:

  • Health and Social Care
  • Youth Work
  • Play Therapy
  • Psychology
  • Counselling
  • Social Work

We will also welcome applications from individuals who may have personal experience with Special Educational Needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
