Southsea SEN Teaching Assistant

Job description

We are currently seeking a Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support pupils to work in a specialised school based in Portsmouth. The school has an outstanding ethos, working to ensure pupils both enjoy school, while developing a resilient and engaging attitude toward education.

This is school provides education to pupils across both primary and secondary age categories (2 - 19); with varying needs both physical and mental. Catering for male and female young people, who may demonstrate a number of the following needs:

  • Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Mild to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
  • Physical Disabilities
  • Visual or Hearing impairment.
  • Speech and Language difficulties

Class sizes are usually around 6-8 pupils in a class, with one class teacher and two or three TA's, and a lot of the day might include 1:1 working. Makaton and PEC's are used with some of the pupils.

The school are currently seeking new members of staff to be working with them; looking to increase the support for the attending pupils. Meaning, they're looking for full or part time workers; this work will be between 08.00 - 16.00.
