SENCO

Join a vibrant secondary PRU in Wakefield seeking to appoint a hard-working and committed SENCO. This is a full-time role commencing as soon as possible.

The successful post-holder will work closely with the Principal, senior management and colleagues in the strategic development of the school’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) policy and oversee the day-to-day operation of that policy with the aim of raising SEND pupil Achievement.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • To lead the planning, implementation and delivery of the Academy’s SEN curriculum and assessment provision for SEND students.
  • To ensure the objectives to develop SEND are reflected in the school development plan
  • To support all staff in understanding the needs of SEND pupils through training and dissemination of information.
  • To line manage a team of teachers, LSAs and other support staff where applicable.
  • To establish clear expectations and constructive working relationships within the faculty, devolving responsibilities and delegating tasks, as appropriate.
  • To develop and implement policies and practices within the faculty which reflect the school’s commitment to raising standards and achievement.

To apply for this position, applicant must have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Hold a higher qualification such as National Award for SEN Coordination.
  • Have recent experience in a similar role.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the new SEN Code of Practice and practical experience of teaching pupils with specific SEND issues.         

This vibrant PRU is located in Wakefield just a short drive from the city centre and is easily accessible by public transport links from the surrounding areas. The PRU welcomes students from a range of cultures and backgrounds, with SEMH, and is an inclusive, welcoming learning environment.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
