SEN Teaching Assistants Urgently Needed in Ebbw Vale

Date posted : 20/09/17
£52 - £55 per day + Access to additional training

Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

Our Specialist SEN branch here at Teaching Personnel work closely with a "super" school within Ebbw Vale that caters students aged 3-19 who have a wide range of Special Educational Needs. Within this school the children & young people are able to access vocational alternative lessons that are differentiated accordingly. You will work with every child baring in mind that they are an individual ensuring that their educational and therapeutic needs are met so that they can flourish both within the school and when they leave. A sensory approach to learning is fundamental for many of their pupils in order to help them make sense of the world around them and is embedded within their adapted curriculum.

The successful candidate should:

  • Have knowledge/interest and experience working with Autism/ASD, ADHD, EBD, SLD, PMLD
  • Be able to use positive reinforcement when supporting behaviour difficulties - working with pupils with ADHD this would be an advantage
  • Be a patient and positive role model for children
  • Knowledge of BSL, Makaton, Team Teach, SPELL/TEACCH would be an advantage.

You must be able to use your own initiative and willing to get "stuck in" on occasions - some of these children & young people can display challenging behaviour you must be able to assist the school staff in defusing & de-escalating any situation as they arise. Having experience in supporting children and young people with a variety of additional needs is beneficial.

It takes a specific person to work with pupils with severe learning difficulties. Class sizes can be as small as 3/4 pupils and there is a high ratio of LSA support. SLD/PMLD schools have pupils with complex needs, there may be pupils with degenerative illnesses, those who are completely non-verbal and communicate using basic signing tools like Makaton or through a series of lights and clickers. There may be pupils at the high end of the autism spectrum or with Cerebral Palsy. Ability levels can vary considerably. You'll be working with other professionals within the school, e.g. a nurse, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, etc.

If you feel that you meet the requirements for these vacancies then please submit your CV along with a brief supporting statement. All appointments will be subject to registration with the Education Workforce Council and an Enhanced DBS check that is on the update service.
