SEN Teaching Assistant (Year 5)

Job description

We are looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to our partner two form entry Primary school in the CF5 area of Cardiff, in their Juniors department, to support a pupil in Year 5 with Autism and can display traits of Oppositional Defiant Disorder.

The school is located a spacious, modern building on the western side of Cardiff. Its extremely efficient senior leadership team are providing a supportive, positive and fun environment for staff and pupils alike, and both Infants and Juniors teams work very efficiently together.

As well continuous progressive support for the pupil, the successful candidate will also be required to provide general support with the rest of the class, including but not limited to :

  • Delivering tailored learning activities prepared by the teacher, ususally in a small group setting
  • Supporting the social and emotional development of students, raising any concerns as per the school’s policy and protocols
  • Ensuring that all pupils can engage in learning and stay on task during the lesson or activity
  • Managing challenging behaviour

The school's Head Teacher has confirmed they are happy to consider graduates who are looking to start their career in Education (and potentially become teachers further down the line), however the would like candidates with experience with children, either working or volunteering.

Other than degrees, the school will also consider candidates with the following qualifications :

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Award in Support Work in Schools
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant Diploma
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools
