SEN teaching assistant - South Woodford

Job description

We are currently seeking an experienced teaching assistant to work in a lovely special needs school in South Woodford , located in the borough of Redbridge. This will be to work in a lively KS3 class supporting pupils who have severe learning difficulties, there are a mix of verbal and non verbal pupils and some pupils with behavioural needs. You will need to have prior experience and understanding working with special needs for this role, however applications will be considered from those who have worked in primary schools , nurseries , care sector or mental heath facilities as these skills may be transferable, if you have done voluntary work with special needs and you are passionate to work in this setting please also get in touch ! We are looking for someone who is highly engaging, can be interactive using PECS or Makaton as well as a positive attitude! There is an element of support in class where you will also be require to support with nappy changing and toileting needs due to pupils needs so please only apply if you are comfortable to do so.

The school is part of a multi site academy with the opportunities for professional development and progression, with many moving onto higher level teaching assistant posts, and teaching roles. There will also be the potential to secure a permanent contract!

KS SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Must have at least 8 months previous experience working with SEN
  • 1:1 & group support for SEN pupils
  • Has knowledge of PECS and/ or Makaton
  • Able to support with personal care / toileting needs
  • Must be available for an immediate start
  • Monday to Friday 8.30am - 3.30pm during term time
  • Able to commit to travelling to South Woodford area daily

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
