Special Educational Needs (SEN) specialist Teaching Assistant required for large mixed comprehensive Secondary school in Oldham from September 2018.

Due to an increase in pupils attending the school who require additional support, the school wish to appoint a full time SEN Teaching Assistant at the earliest convenience. This position will initially be offered on a temporary basis for two terms, and may be subject to continuation if funding is available.

"Our SEN Department require the support of a full time SEN Teaching Assistant to work with pupils who have Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP's) from September 2018. It is essential that the incoming SEN Teaching Assistant has previous experience working within a school environment and can implement positive behaviour models with the identified pupils." SEN Co-Ordinator

  • Full time SEN Teaching Assistant required, September 2018 start
  • Working within a well established SEN team in a large mixed comprehensive Secondary school in Oldham
  • Guaranteed for two terms, potential of extension/fixed term position
  • Pay in line with previous experience, earn up to £1200 per month
  • Situated towards the East of Oldham town centre, accessible via the A670

It is essential that the successful SEN Teaching Assistant has previous experience working with children and young people with a range of needs including (but not limited to); Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) and Profound and Multiple Learning Disability (PMLD). Full support will be provided throughout the position, alongside access to additional CPD training.

The role of SEN Teaching Assistant;

  • Working with identified students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups in class
  • Supporting the SENCO with tracking progress and behaviour
  • Delivering activities within the Learning Resource Centre
  • Mentoring and supporting pupils with daily school life
  • Meeting with Parents and Carers to discuss the progress of pupils

The school is located towards the East of Oldham town centre and has approximately 1,400 pupils on roll. The school has a higher than average percentage of pupils who require additional support through an EHCP, and recently, a new Learning Resource Centre was created to provide a more inclusive education to these pupils.

Accessible via the A670 or major public transportation links, the school can be reached from neighbouring areas Rochdale, central Oldham and Tameside.
