ALTERNATIVE YOUTH CLASS FOR EMOTIONALLY VULNERABLE TEENAGERS NEEDS LONGTERM BEHAVIOUR & BASIC CLASSROOM SUPPORT. STARTS 24TH FEB FOR ONE YEAR FIXED MATERNITY CONTRACT
Right now, every school has faced enormous challenges so far this year and the consistency of learning and wellbeing of your pupils is Vital. NOTE: This role is for the remainder of the academic year and consistency is pivotal so the school will need to meet/ zoom/ skype with yourself prior to welcoming you on board.
WHO, WHAT, WHERE & WHY?
- The heads of core KS3 – 4 subjects are looking to appoint a new member of specialist support staff to work with 5-7 Key stage 3- 4 pupils (11-16 years old). The ideal candidates will be confident in both very basic maths and English, however, those who possess talents in just one, or another subject are highly encouraged to apply
- The role is based in a comprehensive school on the border between Caerphilly and Rhondda Cynon Taf. Under a new headship, the school went from requiring urgent attention in their 2016 Estyn report, to being now rated as a ‘GOOD’ school in their recent report. The most impressive changes have been made towards quality of teaching and behavioural ethos. Both have been largely driven by an SLT team focused on creating a consistent and innovative learning environment and often like to refer to their methods as ‘thinking outside of the box!’
- A large percentage of schools come from low income families and qualify for free school meals. The sixth form has been largely developed and a record number or pupils are staying on to complete A-levels at the school. GCSE results have also vastly improved across core areas, and the school are wanting to see progression in this area again.
- You will be working in pupil interventions, supporting a qualified teacher in basic skills. A curriculum will be implemented and set for the pupils based on their additional learning needs, or specific strategies designed to encourage learning outside a mainstream classroom environment. Classes will generally consist of a small number of pupils or one to one work as the lessons will need to be tailored towards ability. Although some of the pupils will possess challenging behaviour, the role is designed for someone who wants to bring their subject specialism to the classroom and see a pupil improve.
WHEN: FEBRUARY 24TH START DATE. Applications encouraged immediately
PAY: Good rates of pay, which is on a sliding scale based on an individual basis. On average GBP65-GBP85 based on a six hour day (we do not take an agency or admin fee) and ensure we negotiate with the school for the best outcome for yourself based on your experiences an in Higher LSA work, qualifications and of course, the impact you make upon starting (give yourself a couple of weeks to find footing)
PROGRESSION: It is a really good way for those who are currently in support roles, and are looking for the next step up to enhance their career and skills and employability within the education sector. Now more than ever, ‘senor’ support staff are needed to take the reigns of their class or small group and ensure learning outcomes are being met while everybody is working respectfully and safely

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
