SEN Teaching Assistant

Job description

We are looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant to work on a 1-1 basis with a SEN student at a school in Penzance. This role will be full time, Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 3.30pm during term time. This role will be to start as soon as possible.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years SEN experience and will be confident within a school setting. Communication skills are very important in this role as they will help you to quickly build a strong relationship with the student.

 You will be responsible for helping the student with their learning activities and encouraging them to work to their highest possible standard, this will include helping to build their confidence with topics they struggle with. You will need to be creative with your learning methods to help ensure the student is engaged with their learning activities. Instructions need to be clear and should be given in a way in which the student will understand. The student has a flexible learning opportunities, if they are struggling within the classroom due to noise levels or any other distractions you will be able to take them out of the classroom and into a quiet room or even outdoors if the weather is nice to ensure that they receive their learning in an environment in which they are comfortable in. You will need to communicate often with the class teacher on the students’ progress so work can be tailored to the level in which they are working at. You may be required to adapt the student’s work if there is a topic they are specifically struggling with, this may involve printing additional work sheets or using different learning resources available to you. There may be times you are required to communication with the SENCO regarding the student’s education plan (IEPs) and so you can be aware of any confidential matters regarding the student which may impact their learning.  

The ideal candidate will be aware of Child Protection, Health and Safety, Behaviour, Teaching and Learning and Equal Opportunities policies. Organisational and time management skills are very important in this role as a lack of these skills could distress the student. You will also need a Child Workforce DBS which can be completed during the recruitment process.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
