We are working with a city centre based, Ofsted OUTSTANDING community special school which provides inclusive and committed support to primary and secondary aged pupils who have complex medical needs, communication needs and learning difficulties.
All students have a specialised Educational Health Care Plan which aims to provide each student with the specific adaptations and assistance they need to develop, learn and grow.
The school hopes to recruit a Teaching Assistant who is familiar with special and/or medical needs including Autism, and preferably have worked in a child based or education environment, however are open to applications from other relevant backgrounds.
The students study a sensory and holistic curriculum, incorporating lots of creative, interactive and messy activities alongside specific occupational therapies which are designed to support their cognitive development (and be really fun!).
As Teaching Assistant, you will be required to support 1:1 or small classes of students, aiding communication, well-being and behaviour within the classroom whilst encouraging all students to get stuck in!
Due to the nature of the students needs, other responsibilities may include supporting at break and meal times with feeding, moving and handling and personal care, so it is important to be comfortable with these duties.
A Teaching Assistant should be enthusiastic, caring and patient and treat each child's well-being with utmost priority, helping the school to be a safe and inclusive space for all.
Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8.30am-3.30pm approximately, but you may be offered additional duties and responsibilities outside of these hours.
The school require on and off support throughout the year depending on student intake and staffing needs, so there is always opportunity for contract extension and permanent roles for staff who are a great asset to the school.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
