A Pupil Referral Unit in Harrogate is looking to recruit an experienced Behaviour Support Worker for employment on a full time basis from September. The school is situated in the city centre, and supplies a provision for Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

We are looking for committed and hardworking individuals who would be happy supporting challenging pupils in an education setting. You must have a working knowledge of meeting the emotional, social and mental health needs of young people and a desire to take a supporting role in the classroom.

You will have the ability to work with colleagues to successfully create a well-managed, structured environment so that effective learning can occur. You will create a positive classroom culture, which will inspire and motivate young people to engage with learning activities and understand expectations.

The successful applicant will:

  • Support pupils with learning activities across the curriculum, adapting resources where necessary to meet individual needs
  • Monitor attendance and recording absences in line with school systems
  • Provide regular feedback to pupils and liaise with parents and carers on a daily basis
  • Consistently reinforce the school’s behaviour policy, ensuring that pupil’s understand what is expected of them in school
  • Model desired behaviour and promote positive interaction between pupils
  • Create an environment where pupils feel relaxed and accepted
  • Engage with pupils during break and lunchtimes

You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to relate to pupils, recognising and attending to pupils’ holistic needs and creating a supportive environment. You will be confident in managing challenging behaviour and in de-escalating and diffusing situations to support pupils in crisis. Additional training in positive behaviour techniques such as Team Teach is also desirable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
