Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher to join our committed team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a real difference to the lives of young people who have faced challenges in mainstream education.

You will be working at a small, friendly, and highly supportive independent special school for boys aged 5–13 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Set in beautiful Somerset countryside, our nurturing environment enables pupils to develop confidence, resilience, and a love of learning.

About the Role

You will:

  • Plan and deliver creative, engaging lessons that meet individual learning needs.
  • Work closely with a small team of teaching assistants and therapists to provide a holistic approach to education.
  • Foster positive relationships and model emotional literacy and regulation.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school community.

About You

You will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience of SEN, preferably with pupils who experience SEMH and exhibit challenging behaviour.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with SEMH or additional learning needs.
  • The ability to inspire, motivate, and maintain a calm and positive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Whilst we adopt a more flexible curriculum with separate specialist teaching for some subjects, applicants should be fully conversant with the primary National Curriculum and current primary best practice.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
