Job description

SEN Secondary Teacher – Bury

We are seeking a dedicated and versatile Teacher to join a specialist SEN secondary School in the Bury area.

This role involves delivering engaging, adaptable and inclusive learning to young people with a range of special educational needs. You will play a key part in supporting pupils to access the curriculum, develop confidence and progress toward successful transitions into mainstream settings, specialist pathways or future training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver creative, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils with diverse SEN profiles.
  • Build positive, supportive relationships that promote engagement, motivation and learning.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, therapists and wider multidisciplinary teams to ensure a consistent and nurturing environment.
  • Support pupils both academically and socially, helping them develop independence, communication and life skills.
  • Contribute to EHCP targets, individual education plans and learner profiles.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports and safeguarding documentation.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with young people, ideally within SEN, complex needs or alternative provision.
  • Full availability Monday–Friday during term time.
  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach to supporting diverse needs.

Preferred but Not Essential

  • Experience teaching secondary-aged students with a variety of SEN.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction, inclusive practice and specialist strategies.
  • Ability to deliver creative, hands-on and personalised learning.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Vetting & Compliance
This position is subject to standard safer recruitment procedures, including:

  • Two years of employment references.
  • Safeguarding training (can be provided).
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
