SEN Support Worker

A special school in Bradford are seeking a Support Worker on a long term, full time basis this term.

The school is based in Heaton (BD9), and caters for learners aged 3-19 with complex learning needs and difficulties including Autism. There are currently 116 pupils across 12 classes in school.

The school curriculum has been designed to meet the diverse needs of all learners, offering a broad, balanced, differentiated and relevant education which maximises the progress of all pupils. Lessons are structured to enable pupils to develop skills and knowledge to best prepare them for life beyond school – gaining independence, self-help and social skills.

All pupils are assessed according to their individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), enabling staff to plan work that is personalised and targeted to best meet pupils’ needs. All plans are reviewed regularly and updated to monitor progress.

We are seeking a Support Worker who would be comfortable working within a specialist environment and who is passionate about creating meaningful learning opportunities for pupils with additional needs. You will be creative, and able to motivate pupils to engage with learning activities – including sensory and play based activities. You will work alongside teaching staff to implement specific programmes which may include Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.

You will be confident in effectively managing pupil behaviour and in de-escalation strategies.

We would love to hear from individuals with experience using Intensive Interaction, PECs and TEACCH principles – and from those with personal experience supporting individuals with Special Educational Needs.

You will be confident in liaising with parents and key professionals, and in maintaining and updating records on a daily, weekly and termly basis. You will be committed to the role and be available on a full time basis (8:30am-3:30pm) during term time.
