SEN Support Assistant

Teaching Personnel are currently seeking learning support assistants in the Portsmouth area to work in a specialist Special Educational Needs provision catering to pupils with a variety of complex needs. This may include:

  • Autism and Asperger's
  • Speech and Language difficulties and associated impairment
  • Development delay
  • Physical Needs

The Role:

The successful Teaching Assistant will be working in a classroom supporting the Class Teacher and fellow TA's on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis with pupils. The hours of the role are between 8:30 - 15:30 Monday - Friday. Full time is preferred but part time applicants may still apply, as job shares can be available for the right person.

The Candidate:

Ideally, the successful TA should have previous experience working with varied Special Needs. Without professional experience any personal experience with the following could help the candidate succeed in this role:

  • Youth/Community work experience
  • Care worker
  • Challenging behaviour within family
  • Mentoring
  • SEMH/ABA

You should have a passion for mentoring pupils closely through their differentiated curriculum, and be able to support them in classroom tasks and activities. The ability to build relationships with staff and children is very important, as is the ability to use initiative and be flexible to help in a variety of situations.

Teaching Personnel do offer many development courses through our CPD Academy; such as Autism Awareness, Safeguarding and Team Teach to help support any successful candidates within this environment.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
