We are looking for an enthusiastic SEN Support Assistant on a part-time basis for a Special School in Bradford.
Our client is a special school for pupils aged between 4 – 19 years, with severe learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning difficulties This position would be ideal for someone who loves working with children, enjoys working outside and likes creating a fun environment for the children.
Working in an established team, you will be expected to demonstrate the following:
- The ability to support pupils with special needs effectively and role model positive behaviour always
- Communicate effectively and to work as part of a team
- The ability to work on your own initiative including organising games and supporting play
- An ongoing commitment to supporting the development of young people with additional needs
The successful applicant will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team which includes specialist teachers, support staff, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and medical staff to meet the holistic needs of pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities, Autism, and Severe Learning Difficulties.
There are currently 105 pupils on roll within the school, which is made up of four primary classes, four secondary classes and a post 16 provision all. The school has recently set up a partnership with Bradford College to extend vocational opportunities for some of the post 16 pupils. Class groups across the provision are small, up to 10 in a class and teaching staff always have the support of at least three support assistants – enabling very small and 1:1 work to take place.
The creative curriculum is delivered through topics, or themes throughout the age ranges. This allows the pupils to recognise and use skills that are transferable across a range of environments and situations. Teaching staff work with their own class for most of the day and this enables them to get to know their pupils, and their needs very well, and consequently the lessons are highly personalised for each pupil. He successful applicant will implement bespoke learning plans and ensure plans are differentiated to meet individual needs.
You will be expected to work hard to support the foundation subjects around the development of language, literacy, and numeracy. Pupils with physiotherapy, or occupational therapy needs also receive their therapy embedded in functional activities within class as far as possible, so that they do not miss any teaching time and they understand the purpose of their programmes. As a Support Assistant, you will be expected to implement programmes as instructed by key therapists throughout the school day.
We are ideally seeking an experienced Teaching or Learning Support Assistant, with a working knowledge of supporting young people with Special Educational Needs in an education or health care setting.
