SEN School seeking Teaching Assistant

Job description

A specialist school in Thornton are seeking a Teaching Assistant to support the needs of their pupils with SEN.

The School is a local authority maintained special school for children aged 4 to 16 years with a wide range of learning difficulties, including moderate and severe needs, autism, speech, language and communication difficulties and social and emotional difficulties.

In school the primary classrooms create an inspiring environment for children to learn and also have an outdoor learning environment to enhance this provision, with a working area and playground. In Key Stage 3 students follow the National Curriculum and subjects are differentiated to meet the needs of each pupil. All pupils are grouped according to ability / need and class sizes consist of 8-12 pupils. The Key Stage 4 provision is adapted to provide a model similar to high schools and students are taught in small groups of between 5-8 students, for most subjects. Some Key Stage 4 students attain accreditation in courses suitable to their learning needs. These focus on life skills and Functional Skills in English and Maths. This allows the pupils to further develop their life skills, social and communication skills, and supports their developing independence and preparation for post 16. Key Sage 4 students develop their Personal Skills through ASDAN's Bronze, Silver and Gold Personal Development programmes and Transition Challenge Award. You must therefore have the ability to work with children from KS1-KS4.

You must have experience supporting children with SEN in order to be considered and must be willing to work on a supply basis initially whilst we ideally seek you a longer term role.

Please send a copy of your CV if you wish to be considered.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
