Job description

An opportunity has arisen within a Special Needs School in Bradford for an experienced SEN Learning Support Assistant.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will support the teacher in delivering learning activities to young people across the curriculum. You will assist with planning and preparation of learning materials and the development of work programmes for individuals and groups of pupils. You will be responsible for preparing resources to support learning activities and you will monitor and evaluate pupil progress and report this to the class teacher and/or parents/carers. In addition, you may also be required to complete administration duties as required. You will possess the organisational skills required to prioritise your workload, and you will also have excellent written and verbal communication skills to liaise effectively with the care team, medical staff and senior leaders in school.

The school is a generic special school for pupils aged 2-19 with a wide range of Special Educational Needs. Classes are organised according to the needs of the learners and are grouped into bases. You will be comfortable providing personal care and supporting pupils during break/lunchtimes, supporting with feeding and in accessing areas of school.

In addition to supporting access to the curriculum, you will also be responsible for promoting independence amongst pupils. You may be required to assist pupils with communication, developing fine/gross motor skills and in developing an awareness of personal safety. Additional experience in Makaton, PECs and/or Team Teach is also desirable.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
