SENTA required for immediate start in Leeds

  • Competitive rates of up to £85 per day
  • Experience of working with pupils with Special Educational Needs
  • Appropriate training in BSL, Makaton, PECS and/or Team Teach highly desirable

We are currently looking for an experienced teaching assistant to work at an SEN school in North Leeds, situated roughly 30 minutes outside of Leeds City Centre.

The school caters for a range of pupils from primary through to secondary with a range of SEN (including Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties and Speech and Language Delay). You will be required to support these pupils and re-engage them as fully as possible back in to education. Your role will include nurture and offer additional support with communication, including those pupils with a mechanical system of communication such as PECS. You may also be required to use British Sign Language and/or Makaton, (a form of sign language for SEN pupils) so training in either of these would be beneficial.

You will have strong interpersonal skills in order to communicate with families, carers and a multidisciplinary team of teaching staff, social workers, speech and language therapists and educational psychologists. You will be organised, patient and confident, with a sound understanding of meeting the social, emotional and mental health needs of young people with Special Educational Needs.

Experience or training in the following is also desirable:

· Picture Exchange Communication (PECS)

· Makaton or BSL (to any level)

· Autism Awareness/ASC Training

· Team Teach

· Moving and Handling

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
