Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant role - Blackburn

I am currently working alongside a large SEN School in Blackburn who call upon me very frequently to cover their staff absence. The school provides specialist education for children and young people aged 2 - 19 years and meets the needs of a wide range of learning difficulties, including Autism, Complex Medical Needs, PMLD and those with sensory impairments. Some students also have associated social, emotional and behavioural difficulties therefore you must be confident in dealing with challenging behaviour.

The school call upon us very frequently for their supply needs which can be on an ad-hoc, part-time or full-time basis to cover last minute sickness / absence or for their longer term cover requirements. Candidates who get on particularly well are also regularly appointed on a more permanent basis by the school. You will ideally be willing to work on a supply basis initially, whilst we seek you a longer term opportunity.

Opportunites are available in KS1, KS2, KS3, KS4 and FE therefore a flexible attitude is preferable.

The ideal candidate must be enthusiastic and energetic with a can-do attitude - An outgoing and vibrant personality will be key to this role!

You must be willing to assist with personal care including the changing and toileting of the children. Applicants do not necessarily need to have experience in this but must be willing to assist.

You must have experience in supporting the needs of children / adults with SEN. Applicants who come from a Care or Youth Work background are also highly sought after.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
